Summary: The paper deals with the issue of changes in the law of geographical indications and traditional indications in the context of the changes that are currently taking place. The text assesses in a correlated context the changes in the incoming EU regulations (Regulation (EU) 2024/1143, Regulation (EU) 2023/2411) compared to the previous EU regulations, or in the case of designations of non-agricultural products also compared to the national regulations of selected Member States (with an emphasis on the Czech Republic). In this context, the paper also deals with several court decisions that have dealt with important issues related to the fundamental institutes of this area of law – namely the meaning of the specification of a protected designation (General Court judgment T-361/21 [Halloumi]), the outsourcing of part of the production of a product with a protected designation (CJEU judgment C-354/22 [Weingut A]), and finally the meaning of reputation in terms of registrability (French Council of State judgment No. 22-12.858 of 15.11.2023 [GI Pierres marbrières de Rhône-Alpes]). The paper also briefly discusses the state of adaptation to the new EU rules in the Czech Republic.
